Eligible students age three or older receive an Individualized Education Program (IEP) which is based on evaluation and is developed by the IEP Team. The IEP specifies goals and services that are appropriate for each individual child. The term "related services" refers to services other than teaching that may be needed in order to help the child master his/her IEP goals, such as speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, transportation, assistive technology or behavior intervention.

Additional support services are provided to students and/or staff on an as-needed basis in all Special Beginnings programs by the following HCOE support staff:

  • School Nurse – provides health education and management of medical information
  • School Psychologist – provides student assessment and consultation on programming, curriculum recommendations, and behavior management techniques
  • Low Incidence Specialists – including Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Vision Impairment and Occupational Impairment, and Assistive Technology specialists

The term "related services" does not apply to Early Start (under three) services.
