Kneeland Fun Run

The 4th annual Kneeland Fun Run is scheduled for May 5th.  Proceeds from this year’s event will go towards funding future field trips for our students.  Plans are underway for the event including finding sponsors, donations, and supplies.  If you would like to help, know someone who might want to sponsor, or have a donation, please contact Jill Macknicki at school 442-5472 or by emailing jmacknicki@yahoo.com

In attendance:  Greta Turney, Cheire Circe, Jill Macknicki, Amy Miller, Calista Young, Michael Quinlan, Pete Harrison, Michelle Krupa, Ann Alter, Betsy Watson

1.  PTO moved to pay Jesse Austin $100 for his visits to the school to provide creative writing workshops/presentations for the students.

a.  PTO will revisit paying for Jesse Austin next year

i.  8 to 10 weeks 1 visit per week at $45 a week-to include a creative writing presentation piece by Jesse and the students at the Open House.

ii.  Per visit is $89 each

2.  PTO authorizes the purchase of Read-A-Thon prizes totally no more than $200

a.  Greta will see about getting kindles or nooks donated.  Unlikely, but worth a try.

b.  Gift certificates from local book stores

c.  Home-made and store bought bookmarks

d. Small “incentive” or “milestone” prizes to keep th motivation up

e.  PTO will revisit the Read-A-Thon as a potential fundraisers for future years.

3.  Microsocpe survey results were in the affirmative to purchase two microscopes for the upper grade classes totally no more than $850

4.  Rummage sale will be held from 8 AM to 2 PM at 975 ay Stree t in Eureka, off Myrtl.

a.  Donations will be accepted beginning March 19th

b.  Jill and Greta will supervise donations to the school site to ensure the quality of donations.

c.  Michelle has received pre-approval to donate many leftovers to the Redwood Acres Rummage sale folks.

d.  Rummage sale will include a Bake Sale-need to solicit bakers.

e.  Cherie will take the school coffee maker to the sale to make and sell coffee

5.  Budget update

a.  PTO will not be asked to fund the copier nor copier maintenance

b.  It might fall to PTO to consider funding a specialist-pending Boards’ final decision considering budget.

i.  If a specialist is wanted, PTO will send out a survey to assess support

ii.  A separate fundraising committee may be organize dt o fundraise specifically for the specialist’s salary.

c.  PTO will not be asked to fund Costco membership

6.  Board approved PTO’s request to explore enrichment/after-school classes as a fundraiser.

a.  Greta will create a list of potential classes

b.  Greata will create a parent interest survey to assess potential involvement both with enrollment and with teaching a class

c.  PTO decided on enrollment of $30 for a 4 to 6 week class, once a week after school for one hour.

d.  If we require special supplies (i.e. ukuleles for ukulele class, we can submit a blurb on donors choose.org)

7. Fun Run planning has begun

a.  One business has donated items for a goodie bag and a small monetary donation.

b.  Jill has approached several businesses but is open for further ideas for businesses to sponsor the run

8.  The boat has given PTO permission to send home a supplies wish list.

9.  The board has given PTO permission to send home students school supply lists at the end of the year for supplies the students can bring for all students to use.

a.  The list will be sent home in May and in September

b.  The letter will state that all supplies will go into a community cupboard for all students to use.

c.  An alternative of a $20 monetary donation will be stated for those who refer not to shop, but still want to help out the school with purchasing supplies.
